Text Box: Negotiations UPDATE
The Camden County College Chapter of United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey, AFT #2222 (UAFNJ), has submitted their contract proposals to the Human Resources Department. No schedule has been set for the actual beginnings of the negotiations.
The best way you can help support the negotiating team is to become a full member of the Camden County Chapter of UAFNJ. There is more power in numbers. Many adjuncts think they are already full members because they have dues deducted from their pay checks. Unless you have actually signed a dues check-off card, you are an agency fee member and not a full-member. If you don’t know whether you are a full member, or to join the union, contact Karen Feldman at kfeldman@camdencc.edu. Having more of you with us makes our job much easier.

United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey/Camden County College Chapter—AFT 2222

Working together, we can make a difference!

December 2009                                                   www.ccc-aft.org                                             Volume X, Issue 4

March to Statewide AFT Unity

AFT members at Rutgers have voted to affiliate with the New Jersey State Federation of Teachers (NJSFT). Rutgers’ three units had formerly been affiliated as a separate arm of AFT New Jersey. The three units are the AFT/AAUP unit representing the faculty, teaching assistants and other full-time faculty, URA representing the administrators, and PTL representing the part-time lecturers. Although the move has been approved by the Rutgers’ units, the official move will be in January.

Rutgers affiliation with NJSFT adds about 7500 members to the NJSFT. The NJSFT is made up of Pre-K thru 12 schools’ personnel, the adjuncts, and units at two community colleges Suffolk and Raritan. AFT has long been attempting to unify their divergent locals into one large super local. The merger between the Rutgers units and the NJSFT is a giant step in that direction.

Joining the Union

Although adjuncts are welcome to join the Camden County College Chapter  of UAFNJ at any time, representational dues are deducted at the beginning of the adjunct’s second consecutive semester.

For information on  joining the CCC Chapter of UAFNJ , contact Membership Co-Chair Karen Feldman at kfeldman@camdencc.edu. You must join the union to be able to participate in voting decisions and to be able to take advantage of AFT programs.

United Adjuncts is Growing

County College of Morris has just voted to join United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey. Their 300 members brings us to about 2600 adjuncts. They join the other members of United Adjuncts including those at Camden, Essex, Hudson, Mercer, Middlesex, Passaic, and Union.

Congratulations are also in order to the Morris adjuncts on their new contract which was recently ratified.
