Text Box: We’re 2222

The adjuncts at Camden County College have joined with adjuncts from six other New Jersey community colleges to form a super local affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers (AFT). Twenty-two hundred adjuncts from Camden, Essex, Hudson, Middlesex, Mercer, Passaic and Union have banded together to form United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey (UAFNJ), local 2222.
The adjuncts from Camden County College will no longer be known as the Camden County College Adjunct Faculty Federation. We will now be known as the Camden County Chapter of the United Adjunct Faculty of New Jersey (UAFNJ). All of the chapters will use the designation AFT 2222, and new union cards will be sent to all full members this fall.
In joining with the other colleges, the UAFNJ chapters will maintain full local autonomy. The Camden County College chapter will retain the same officers and structure. The chapter will also negotiate our contract with Camden County College, just as we always have.
The advantage of joining with a larger group is that we will have a stronger voice, both with the legislature and with AFT. In fact, AFT has already assigned a national staff person to work with the UAFNJ.

Joining the Union

Although adjuncts are welcome to join the Camden County College Adjunct Faculty Federation at any time, representational dues are deducted at the beginning of the adjunct’s second consecutive semester. For information on  joining the CCCAFF, contact Membership Co-Chair Karen Feldman at kfeldman@camdencc.edu. You must join the union to be able to participate in voting decisions and to be able to take advantage of AFT programs.

UAFNJ ELECTS TRANSITIONAL SLATE

The Executive Council of the UAFNJ elected transitional officers to guide the organization until next Spring’s Delegate Assembly. The three officers, who will serve without pay, are:

In addition, she is a member of the Higher-Ed Program and Policy Council of the national AFT. This group is responsible for guiding AFT policy for the higher ed locals. She is also a member of the Adjunct Advisory Committee of the national AFT.

Secretary-Treasurer: William Lipkin. Bill is an adjunct instructor in history and government at Union County College, Kean University, Caldwell College, Seton Hall University and Montclair State University, and is the President of the Union County College Chapter of the UAFNJ.
